The Old Thousand Oaks
Civic Center & City Hall
In 1996, Harris Engineering was challenged with finding a low-cost way to strengthen the existing concrete, non-conforming columns for the Old City Hall in Thousand Oaks. We developed a solution based on the Fiberwrap technique used on bridge strengthening. We engineered the first application of this technique to be used inside a fire-rated building. The cost was only one-third of a comparable steel jacket strengthening system. The seismic analysis was performed using state-of-the-art computer modeling.
